Collaborating to help our youth develop healthy lives and social responsibility
Our Collaboration with the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago’s Community Schools program
We are thrilled to collaborate with the YMCA of Metro Chicago’s Community Schools program. Like the Y, our Can-Do Crew’s character development curriculum is committed to helping our youth become socially responsible.
Our Can-Do Crew Social and Emotional Learning Curriculum empowers children to engage in meaningful and accessible social action by:
addressing discrete social issues and universal themes in easy-to-read verse
focusing on relevant topics, such as reaching out to help others, caring for the elderly, including others in playtime, eating healthy and making respectful decisions
providing the young students with fun, inspiring, age-appropriate plans of social action
incorporating charming illustrations and multi-ethnic characters that speak to children of all cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds
The Can-Do Crew partnered with the primary teachers at The Morton School for Excellence and Oglesby Elementary School for its hands-on piloting of The Can-Do Crew Curriculum. We worked in concert with the Y’s Community Schools program to continue to enhance The Can-Do Crew. All of the valuable feedback we received has been incorporated to improve the relevancy and ease of implementation of our program. In the words of The Can-Do Crew, we believe that together we can “make the world better!”.
